Podcast Additions: Intros & Closings, Email Updates

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

We’ve added a little bit of shine to the podcasts recently. First, we are using Adobe Audition to work with the MP3 files. We recorded introductions and closings for the podcasts. Actually, I struggled to find a good voice to use for these. When I found potential candidates, I couldn’t get their schedule to mesh, so, out of frustration, I just recorded them myself. With the help of Ray, our campus videographer/sound engineer, I read the introduction, and he added the music later. He sent me the files, and, with the help of Joel, one of our great tech guys, I combined them with the originial MP3 using Audition. I also dropped the file size a bit. 10 meg for an hour MP3 isn’t too bad.

One of the other pieces we are testing is FeedBlitz’s email notifications via FeedBurner. It’s pretty cool. Users can sign up to receive emails when a new file is added to the RSS feed. Some of the librarians and college staff have signed up so that we can see how it works. So far, so good.
